The dream of a philosopher’s guitar …
The quest for the Grail, beyond its mystical legend, is above all an intimate journey, a path that can lead to spiritual elevation and even to a form of transcendence that nevertheless requires the visit of the innermost depths of the inner being.
“Solve e Coagula”. As I wandered through the study of the lutherie of past Masters, in search of some hidden mystery favorable to guide my quest, this alchemical precept appeared to me as obvious. For more than 15 years I have been exploring the field of possibilities and tirelessly trying to solve the riddles of my profession. Driven by my research, acoustic, technical and theoretical, but also sensitive and more instinctive, my skills and knowledge are constantly refined and always offer me in return successful questioning. Thus, over time, my achievements, as well as my mind, are grown.
And then one day, the “call”
It’s nice to remember the two or three fascinating guitars that moved me deeply during my life as a musician and luthier. Much more than their specificity of their structure or their sound qualities, it is specially the deep emotions that they generated that remain anchored in me. This is the meaning of my quest as it appeared to me after so many years: the idea that beyond a controlled know-how, there could also exist something invisible to shape, an enchantment that would exceed the matter. Is not this the art of the arts ?
And it is finally by unfolding a little more the thread of History and its secrets that a new door opened to me, that of the stone builders and the cathedrals. Erected to the glory of superior principles, these real stone books, in which the hermetic symbols flourish, as well as an anthology of geometric and spiritual teachings, would be bridges between the profane material world and a more sacred world.
The principle of a new guitar was outlined and I understood then that the simple work of the wood was not enough anymore and that one should strive to live the common experience of the matter and the spirit (Labor-Oratory), so that the crucible of my workshop an instrument arises that withstand the test of time. Because although my current guitars fit perfectly in their time, it was necessary to imagine and to bring the timeless guitar to fruition.
“Alkemia” is the result of this work. Faithful to the aspirations of my time, I wish to honor the legacy of a tradition that has given rise to my most beautiful emotions. Alliance of the “materia prima” and “spiritus”, I cannot affirm that it will be for you a philosopher’s guitar, but I cherish the hope that it becomes the guitar of the musician-philosophers, the Salt of your own interior Work .
